Hillcats Down RiverHawks, 8-6, to Sweep Season Series

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team downed in-state rival Northeastern State, 8-6, on Tuesday (Feb. 21) at the Diamond Sports Complex to sweep the two-game home-and-home season series.

NSU gained an early 3-0 lead, but the Hillcats rallied to get the 8-6 victory. RSU posted 17 hits in the contest.

The RiverHawks scored the first three runs of the game, and still led, 4-3, after three complete innings.

After falling behind early, the navy and red plated one run in the second inning on an RBI double by Jordan Garr for a 3-1 score. NSU hit a solo home run in the third, but the navy and red responded with two runs in their half of the inning to pull to within one at 4-3. Sam Davison doubled down the line to score Chris Miguel and Bradley Degnan.

A solo home run by Garrett Hall tied the score at 4-4. The Cats pulled away with three runs in the next two innings. Ismael Orozco put the Hillcats up, and Jason Marley upped the edge to 6-4 as he scored on a wild pitch. Davison continued his hot day with an RBI single for a 7-4 score.

RSU added its final run when Miguel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. The RiverHawks put up runs in the seventh and ninth innings for the final 8-6 margin.

Davison finished 3-for-5 with three RBI. Degnan went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Matt Seubert, Marley, and Garr each posted two hits.

The Cats used seven pitchers for the midweek contest. Tim Luce registered the win as he went 2.0 innings. Rusty Huber pitched the final 1.0 inning to get his first save of the season.
