BETHANY, Okla. – Junior
Matt Seubert homered in his first two at bats to give the Rogers State baseball team an early 5-0 edge en route to a 13-2 victory in seven innings at Southern Nazarene on Tuesday at Feland Field.
The Cats moved to 30-14 on the season, their first 30-win season since 2013 when RSU finished 36-24.
Seubert, a junior from Belmont, Calif., sent the second pitch of the game over the fence in left center for a solo home run and an early 1-0 lead. With two on in the second, Seubert struck again to the same spot in left center with a three-run homer to increase the Hillcat margin to 5-0.
The Cats blew the game open with five runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 11-2 advantage. The fifth-inning outburst started with a solo home run from
Jason Marley.
Sam Casinelli drove in
Ismael Orozco with a bunt single to the pitcher for an 8-2 score. One more run scored on a Seubert double to the gap in left. The lead was upped to 11-2 on a
Bradley Degnan double to left center to plate Casinelli and Seubert.
RSU put the game away with two runs in the seventh inning for the 13-2 victory in only seven innings due to the run rule. Casinelli scored the first run due to a wild pitch, and
Chris Miguel doubled to left to score
Brooks Douglass for the 13-2 final score.
The Crimson Storm tallied their two runs with RBI singles in the second and fourth innings.
Seubert finished 3-for-5 with five RBI. Casinelli was a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI, and Marley went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Brock Knoten earned the win as he moved to 4-1 on the season. The sophomore from Ketchum, Okla. went 5.0 innings and allowed only five hits and two runs with one strikeout.
Landon Nealon and
Justin Magstadt each pitched one inning of relief.
