Hillcats Fall on Double Overtime Goal at DBU

DALLAS – The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss on a double overtime golden goal by host Dallas Baptist University on Saturday (Sept. 23) at the Patriot Soccer Field.
 
The Patriots tallied the game-winning golden goal in the 105th minute of the contest when Emmy Niece scored on a header off a corner kick for the 1-0 final score.
 
DBU held a huge advantage in shots during the 105 minutes with a 23-5 edge. The Patriots put 12 shots on goal, including the goal, with the Cats finishing with only one shot on goal. DBU put pressure on RSU with 11 corner kicks. The navy and red totaled one corner kick in the contest.
 
Marlaina Trahant led the Hillcats with two shots and the only shot on target.
 
Goalkeeper Taylor Sargent posted a career-high 11 saves to keep the Hillcats in the game. In 105 minutes, she allowed only the one goal with the 11 saves.
 
With the loss, the navy and red ended its two-game road trip 0-2 against the top two teams in the Heartland Conference from the 2016 season.
 
The Hillcats (6-2, 3-2 Heartland Conference) return to Claremore for two Heartland Conference contests next Thursday and Saturday. RSU starts with Oklahoma Christian on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Soldier Field. Follow the action on the Hillcat Network www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
