DALLAS – Dallas Baptist University scored the game-winning golden goal in double overtime to down the Rogers State women's soccer team, 2-1, on Thursday (Oct. 11) at Patriot Soccer Field.
In a rematch of the 2017 Heartland Conference Tournament championship game, the Patriots (8-3-2, 7-1-1 Heartland Conference) tallied the game-winning goal in the 106th minute on a header by Brittany Elles. Kaci Parks got the assist on the header goal.
After falling behind in the first half, the Hillcats (7-4-2, 4-3-2 Heartland Conference) evened the score at 1-1 in the 60th minute. Sophomore
Hannah Mushisky scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to tie the game with
Eva Madarang getting the assist.
DBU gained an early 1-0 edge in the 33rd minute when Abigail Olmos netted a goal with Emmy Niece picking up the assist.
In the first half, the host Patriots held a 6-1 advantage in shots. However, the Hillcats outplayed DBU in the second half with the one goal and shots were even at 7-7. The Patriots posted a 4-0 edge in shots in overtime to tallied a 17-8 advantage in shots for the game. DBU doubled up the Cats in shots on goal at 10-5.
Mushisky paced the navy and red with two shots on goal.
Bailey Jarvis posted two shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Taylor Sargent finished with seven saves in 106 minutes in goal while allowing two goals. She dropped to 7-4-2 on the season.
