CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer scored in the fourth minute of the game, but No. 7-ranked Midwestern State evened the score and pulled away in the second half to down the Hillcats 4-1 on Saturday (Oct. 20) at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats (8-6-2, 6-4-2 Heartland Conference) took an early lead on a goal by
Chris Sowder in the fourth minute for a 1-0 advantage over the top 10 team.
Noah Robson picked up the assist on the early goal.
The No. 7-ranked Mustangs (13-1-1, 10-1-1 Heartland Conference) evened the score late in the first half when Alex Mullet scored off a free kick in the 41st minute.
After a 1-1 score after the first half, MSU tallied three second-half goals to push out to a 4-1 margin. The Mustangs opened the second half with a goal in the 56th minute for a 2-1 edge. In the 70th minute, MSU increased the lead to 3-1 with a goal off a free kick from Hikaruhito Meike. The Mustangs added their final tally on another goal by Mullet in the 86th minute for the 4-1 final score.
For the game, the visiting Mustangs held a 17-5 advantage in shots. MSU tallied seven shots on goal, and RSU put one shot on target, the early goal.
Jazz Dhaliwal started in goal and made three saves in the 90 minutes. He gave up the four goals, dropping to 4-2-2 on the season in goal.
The Hillcats travel to Newman on Thursday (Oct. 25) for the final regular season road contest. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Wichita, Kan. Live stats and video streaming will be available.
