Hillcats Rally Late to Upend Winona State, 6-5

OZARK, Mo. – The Rogers State baseball team rallied with three runs in the sixth inning to avenge an earlier loss this weekend to Winona State with a 6-5 victory today (March 4) at US Baseball Park.
 
Trailing 5-3, the Hillcats (10-3) plated three runs in the sixth inning to take the 6-5 win, their third straight victory. With runners at the corners, Dylan Russell drove in one run with a groundout to score Blake Chiaramonte, who led off the inning with a single. Garrett Hall knotted the score at 5-5 with a single to bring home Derek Brumble. Sam Casinelli plated the game-winning run with a single to score Hall for the 6-5 edge.
 
The navy and red scored four unanswered runs as Russell knocked in Brumble in the fourth inning to pull the Cats to within two at 5-3.
 
After one run in the first by the Warriors, Chiaramonte singled to put the Cats up 2-1as Zack Mann and Matt Seubert scored.
 
The Warriors responded with four straight runs to build a 5-2 edge before the RSU rally. A bases loaded walk tied the score at 2-2 in the second and a sac fly to center gave WSU a 3-2 advantage. In the fourth inning, the Warriors added two runs on a groundout and single for the 5-2 margin.
 
Russell and Chiaramonte each finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hall went 2-for-2 with one RBI. The Hillcats totaled 13 hits in the win.
 
Drew Van Winkle earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings in relief. He allowed only three hits and zero unearned runs. Brock Knoten went the final 2.0 innings and picked up the save.
 
The Hillcats are back in action on Friday (March 9) at UA Fort Smith for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. in Fort Smith, Ark. The four-game series concludes on Saturday (March 10) with 1 p.m. twinbill.
