CLAREMORE, Okla. – Freshman
Andrea Morales shutdown one of the top offenses in the Heartland Conference with a complete game two-hitter in a 3-0 shutout win over Lubbock Christian on Friday (April 20) at the Diamond Sports Complex.
With a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Chaps yesterday, the Hillcats (33-15, 14-9 Heartland) took all three games of the series with LCU -- RSU's first three-game series sweep of the Lady Chaps in program history. For the season, the navy and red won four of five games against the Lady Chaps to win the series.
Morales, a freshman from El Paso, Texas, went the full 7.0 innings with four strikeouts. She allowed only a double and a single with three walks. The freshman moved to 11-6 on the season and earned her second win of the three-game series.
Morales retired the first five LCU batters to open the game. And after a single, she got four more outs in a row. The Lady Chaps totaled their second hit of the game in the fourth and then Morales was unhittable in the final 4.0 innings.
Allie McFetridge plated the game-winning run with a single to center to score senior
Katy Taylor for an early 1-0 lead in the third inning. McFetridge got in a rundown between first and second, but
Tailee Reding scored on the play to put the Hillcats in front 2-0.
Freshman
Rylee DeLozier knocked out the final run of the game with a solo line drive home run to left for the 3-0 margin.
McFetridge finished 2-for-3 with one RBI. The Hillcats totaled six hits in the contest.
