LAREDO, Texas – The Rogers State softball team ended its three-game series at Texas A&M International with a 5-1 loss to the Dustdevils on Saturday (April 7) at Dustdevil Field. TAMIU swept all three games of the series and the navy and red dropped to 11-9 in the league and 27-14 overall. TAMIU moved by RSU in the league standings at 14-10.
The host Dustdevils jumped on the Cats early with runs in each of the first two innings before an outburst of three runs in the fourth to open up a 5-0 lead. RSU scored one run in the fifth for the 5-1 final margin.
In the first inning, TAMIU went up 1-0 with an RBI single and extended the advantage to 2-0 in the second inning with a sac fly to center field.
Two more runs scored with a single to the gap in right for a 4-0 edge and an RBI groundout made it 5-0 in the fourth inning.
Freshman
Allie McFetridge drove in RSU's only run of the game in the fifth with an infield single to bring in
Brooke Tyler for a 5-1 score.
The Hillcats opened the game with a hit in the first at-bat of the contest by
Danelle Day, but didn't record another hit until the fifth inning on the McFetridge single. A bunt single by
Katelyn Gamble was the only other hit in the game for the navy and red as they posted three for the seven-inning affair.
TAMIU's Melanie Lint earned the win in the circle, going the full 7.0 innings with only one earned run and three hits given up. She registered four strikeouts.
Senior
Alex Brake started in the circle for RSU and went 2.0 innings. Freshman
Andrea Morales went the final 4.0 innings.
The Hillcats step out of league play this Tuesday (April 10) at Missouri S&T in a doubleheader in Rolla, Mo. at 1 p.m.
