DBU Scores Overtime Golden Goal to Down Hillcats

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Dallas Baptist University scored the game-winning golden goal in the third minute of overtime to down the Rogers State women's team, 1-0, on Saturday (Sept. 29) at Soldier Field.

After a scoreless 90 minutes, the Lady Patriots (6-2-2, 5-0-1 Heartland Conference) tallied the only goal of the contest in the 93rd minute when Ericca Everson's shot found the left side of the goal after a deflected ball bounced right to Everson.

The Hillcats (6-3-1, 3-2-1 Heartland) had an opportunity late in regulation after DBU got a red card for denying a goal scoring chance for the Cats. Freshman Sydney Connelly's free kick from a yard outside the box went right into the DBU wall to keep the contest scoreless.

RSU was the stronger team in the second half with a 9-5 advantage in shots, including a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. The Cats, however, couldn't covert on their second-half chances.

The Lady Patriots held an 8-4 lead in shots in the first half. For the game, DBU totaled 14 shots to 13 from the navy and red. Shots on goal finished 6-5 with the Lady Patriots holding the edge.

BreAnn Tolleson registered a game-high five shots with two shots on target. Sydney Connelly, Hannah Mushisky and Kori Watters each added two shots as the trio came on as reserves.

Goalkeeper Taylor Sargent totaled five saves in the 93 minutes with the one goal allowed. She dropped to 6-3-1 on the season.

The Hillcats continue their four-game homestand on Thursday (Oct. 4) against Oklahoma Christian at 5 p.m. at Soldier Field. Video and live stats will be available on the Hillcat Network.
