CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer moved to 3-0 for the second straight season with a 1-0 shutout victory over East Central on Thursday (Sept. 6) at Soldier Field.
BreAnn Tolleson tallied the second half game-winning goal as the Hillcats won their 11th straight nonconference game dating back to the 2016 season.
The Hillcats (3-0-0) dominated for the majority of the contest, holding a 25-7 advantage in shots and keeping most of the possession in the 90 minutes. With the pressure being applied, the Cats broke through midway through the second half for the 1-0 victory.
Tolleson scored the game-winning tally in the 70th minute of action. The senior forward knocked in a corner kick from freshman
Sydney Connelly to give the navy and red the 1-0 lead en route to the win.
RSU had other opportunities to add to its lead, but either saw ECU's Mollie Nance make huge saves or saw shots go wide of the target.
Bailey Jarvis sent a header off the crossbar in the final minutes of the first half with one of 11 first-half shots for the navy and red.
For the game, RSU outshot ECU 25-7. The Hillcats registered 10 shots on goal, and the Tigers put five of their seven shots on frame.
Senior goalkeeper
Taylor Sargent earned her second straight shutout victory with five saves in the 90 minutes. She moved to 3-0-0 on the season.
Freshman
Kori Watters tallied a game-high five shots with
Hannah Mushisky and
Miranda Campos each adding four shots.
Laurelle Theodore led the team with three shots on goal.
The Hillcats go on the road for the first time this season on Sunday (Sept. 9) at Central Oklahoma in their final nonconference game of the season. Start time is set for 1 p.m. in Edmond, Okla. with live stats available.
