Fisher, Wynn Help Hillcats To 1-1 Draw Against #14 Emporia State

CLAREMORE, Okla.ReVella Fisher set a school record with 17 saves to help the Hillcats to a 1-1 draw against No. 14 Emporia State Friday night at Soldier Field.

Fisher had 13 saves in regulation and then four saves in overtime to break the previous Rogers State record of 16 saves in a game set by Jordan Harris at Missouri Southern on October 16, 2013.

The Hillcats tie against Emporia State is the second-straight draw for the Hillcats against a top 25 ranked team. Rogers State had a 0-0 tie against No. 7 Central Missouri last Sunday.

Emporia State took the lead in the 58th minute, capitalizing on a penalty opportunity. The visitors were awarded a penalty, but the spot kick by Mackenzie Dimarco was initially stopped by Fisher. However, the save came straight back out to Dimarco, who was able to score on the rebound attempt.

The lead would be short lived, as the Hillcats would draw their own penalty opportunity. Kori Watters drew a foul in the box and Alex Wynn stepped up and tucked the penalty kick into the corner to tie the game at 1. The goal was Wynn's first of the season and third of her career.

Both teams had quality scoring chances in the game. In the 34th minute, Maggie Brown forced Tori Bailey to tip a free kick shot over the bar. After the opening goal, Anita Gaspar forced another save from a long-range shot to the lower-right corner.

Fisher was forced into a huge save in the 90th minute. Dimarco fired a shot from outside the penalty area into the top left corner, but Fisher was able to push the ball around the post for a corner kick.

Fisher also had two key saves in the overtime to force the tie.

In the 107th minute, Hannah Mushisky had a close-range effort partially blocked over the net in the final scoring opportunity of the game.

Rogers State will remain at home for the final game of the four-game home stand on Sunday, welcoming in Washburn for the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Hillcats will kickoff with the Ichabods at 6 p.m. at Soldier Field.
