COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rogers State Baseball team put together 33 hits, drew 13 walks and scored 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Colorado Christian University Friday afternoon at Mountain Lion Park.
 
The Hillcats defeated Colorado Christian 15-6 in game one and then held on for a 16-15 victory in game two as the offensive power of the Hillcats was out in full force in the first two games of a three-game series between the two programs.
 
Six different Hillcats recorded multi-hit games in both games of the doubleheader with 
Christian Merriwether, 
Grant Farris and 
Zack Mann all recording three-hit games.
 
In game one, Merriwether and Farris both hit homeruns, while Farris fell just a double shy of the cycle in a 3-for-5 game with three RBIs, two runs and a walk. Merriwether was 3-for-6 in game one with two RBIs and a run.
 
Mann and 
Christopher Ford led the Hillcats with three runs scored each in the first game.  Mann was 2-for-4 with two walks and also had two RBIs. 
Nick Follett also drove in a pair of runs with two hits and a walk.
 
Corey Murphy tossed seven innings in the win, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk.
 
In game two, Farris and Follett both hit homeruns for the Hillcats. Farris was 2-for-2 at the plate with three walks. Farris scored five runs and also drove in five runs.
 
Follett and 
Mason Harvey both finished with three RBIs on two hits in the game. Merriwether plated four runs in the second game, while Mann scored three runs for the Hillcats.
 
The Hillcats took an early lead in game two, going up 4-0 and never relinquished it despite fighting off the hosts.
 
The Hillcats would score four runs in the second inning and then three more in the third, while Colorado Christian plated three runs in each of the first three innings. After a scoreless fourth, RSU scored three more in the fifth but, Colorado Christian scored four in the bottom half.
 
The Hillcats would score two in the sixth inning and Colorado Christian cut it back to one in the seventh with two runs, but 
Brock Knoten came in to record the save, allowing just one hit in an inning.
 
The final game of the series will be on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon.
