Hillcats Sweep St. Edward's In Heartland Conference Opener

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State Softball extended its win streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of St. Edward's University Sunday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The Hillcats used three homeruns to power their way to a 7-1 victory in game one, before winning game two with a 3-0 shutout.

Mikayla Waggnor started off the scoring with a two-run homerun to left center. Rylee DeLozier then followed it up a few batters later with another two-run homerun to right center.

Sierra Skaggs would then hit a solo homerun in the third inning to put the Hillcats up 5-0.

Taylor Santistevan would drive in the other two runs for Rogers State. With the bases loaded in the fourth, Santistevan grounded to the third baseman, but the through home would hit Danelle Day in the back as she scored.

Santistevan would then single to left center in the sixth inning to score Faren Walker, who was pinch running for Skaggs.

Andrea Morales tossed six scoreless innings before giving up an unearned run in the seventh. Morales scattered four hits and had five strikeouts without a walk in the complete-game victory.

In game two, DeLozier started the scoring with a bases-loaded walk that scored Waggnor. Then, Abigail Taylor doubled to right center, scoring Day and Allie McFetridge.

That would be all the runs that Rogers State needed, as Bailey Killough tossed a complete game shutout. Killough scattered five hits and three walks over seven innings for her fourth win of the season.

The Hillcats will return to action on Saturday, as Rogers State hosts St. Mary's in a conference doubleheader on March 2. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex.
