Hillcats Dominant In Pair of Wins On Opening Day of Edmond Regional Festival

EDMOND, Okla. – The Rogers State Softball team did not allow an earned run and scored 20 total runs in a pair of run-rule victories Saturday afternoon to open up the Edmond Regional Festival.

The Hillcats (4-2) started off the day with a 10-0 victory over Texas Woman's University (1-4) before capping off the day with a 10-1 win over Washburn (2-5) Saturday evening.

In game one, Andrea Morales (2-2) pitched a one-hit shutout, allowing just one run with no walks and eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

The Hillcats were held scoreless in the first inning, but piled up six runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead it never relinquished.

Tailee Reding started the scoring with an RBI single to center while the bases were loaded, scoring Rylee DeLozier. Mikayla Waggnor then walked home another run to put the Hillcats up 2-0.

Danelle Day capped off the inning with an inside the park grand slam, hitting a ball past the diving right fielder, and making it all the way back around to home.

In the third inning, Reding would start the scoring again with an RBI double to score Paige Westover. Waggnor then hit a sacrifice fly to score Katelyn Gamble and Day capped off the inning with an RBI single to score Redding.

The Hillcats would add one more run in the fourth with Jaylan Gibson's RBI double down the left-field line to score Sierra Skaggs.

In game two, the Hillcats would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Allie McFetridge drew a bases loaded walk to start the scoring. Gibson then followed it up with another walk.

Abigail Taylor then batted home Day on an infield ground out.

Washburn would take advantage of an error in the second inning to score a two-out run but the Hillcats would answer right back with a run in the top of the third as Skaggs singled home McFetridge.

In the fourth inning, the Hillcats would add another run with a bases loaded walk, as Day drew a full count free pass to score DeLozier.

McFetridge then batted home two runs with a single to left field.

DeLozier would hit a two-run homerun to left in the fifth inning and Reding capped off the scoring with a run on a wild pitch.

Bailey Killough tossed all five innings for the Hillcats, picking up the win allowing one unearned run on three hits. She had three strikeouts as well.
