Softball Shuts Out Jets To Complete Series Sweep

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State Softball completed a series sweep of Newman University on Saturday, outlasting rain and lightning delays to pick up a 2-0 shutout victory.

After nearly a three-hour delay to the start of the game, Andrea Morales got things going in the circle only to have both teams called off the field for lightning just three pitches in. Following another 35-minute delay, the Hillcats returned to the field and Morales pitched lights out for her 17th win and seventh shutout of the season.

Morales scattered two hits and two walks while striking out five in seven innings for the victory.

Offensively, the Hillcats were held to just six hits and four walks, but Rogers State picked up a run in the first and another in the third to gather all the offense needed for the victory.

Allie McFetridge picked up both RBIs and Tailee Reding scored both of the runs. Reding reaches on a hit by pitch in the first and a walk in the third.

McFetridge would bring Reding home with a single to left center in the first and a single to left in the third.

Danelle Day, Abigail Taylor, Jaylan Gibson and Katelyn Gamble recorded the other hits for the Hillcats. Taylor, Gibson and Rylee DeLozier also had walks.

The Hillcats will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Texas to take on No. 14 Texas A&M-Commerce in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
