Hillcats Pull Away In Late Innings To Defeat NW Oklahoma State 10-2

ALVA, Okla. – The Rogers State Baseball team picked up a 10-2 victory over Northwest Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play at Myers Stadium.
 
Nick Follett drove in four runs, while Christian Merriwether and Grant Ruthenberg had two RBIs each to lead the way for the Hillcats. Follett started the scoring in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly, scoring Zack Mann.
 
After a run from the Rangers in the bottom of the first, pitching took over as the offenses were held scoreless into the sixth.
 
Follett started the scoring again for the Hillcats in the sixth inning, with Brandon Bradshaw and Grant Farris on base, Follett hit a three-run homerun to left field to put the Hillcats ahead for good.
 
The inning wasn't over however, as Merriwether then drove in a run with a single to center field, scoring Ruthenberg.
 
In the seventh inning, Bradshaw reached on an error that scored Farris on to put the Hillcats ahead 6-1. Brendan Griffith then grounded out with the bases loaded, scoring Bradshaw from third.
 
Northwest Oklahoma grabbed a run back in the eighth inning with a homerun, but the Hillcats added three more in the ninth to cruise to victory.
 
Ruthenberg picked up a two-RBI double scoring Griffin Keller and Follett. Merriwether brought in the last run, singling home Ruthenberg.
 
Joey Lucas picked up his third win of the season, going four innings in relief. Lucas scattered two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
 
AJ Deason started the game and went three innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk. Deason had one strikeout.
 
Sean Robinson closed out the game with two innings of work, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
 
The Hillcats will return to action on Friday, hosting St. Edward's in the first two games of a three-game series at the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in the doubleheader on Friday.
