WICHITA, Kan.- The Rogers State baseball team struggled to get anything on Saturday afternoon against Newman, falling to the Jets at McCarthy Field.
The Hillcats (12-6) could muster only two runs in 10-2 loss in the rubber match against the Jets (10-6).
Designated hitter
Griffin Keller blasted his first home run of the season in the second inning with leftfielder
Brandon Bradshaw on to stake RSU to an early lead. But, Newman starting pitcher Zack Erdman would not surrender anymore runs on the afternoon.
Keller added a single and two walks to round out a great day at the plate for the junior from Canada. Third baseman
Nick Follett and right fielder
Patrick Reynier also added a single each to round out a five-hit day for the team.
Although the Hillcats gave up 10 earned runs on the day, two RSU pitchers combined to pitch almost four scoreless innings.
Preston Whitten pitched 2.2 innings while allowing just one hit.
Sean Robinson pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out all three Newman batters.
The Hillcats will be back in action at East Central in Ada, OK on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
