CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State fell in a non-conference contest on Tuesday to Bethany College, dropping the game 4-2 at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Hillcats fell behind in the second inning as Bethany scored three runs on three hits and two walks. Rogers State starter
Drew Van Winkle suffered an injury in the second inning and had to leave the game.
Bethany would add another run to go up 4-0 in the fourth inning, as the Swedes held the Hillcats scoreless into the eighth inning.
Rogers State had been held to just five hits through the first seven innings, but the Hillcats strung together four hits in the eighth to score a pair of runs.
Nick Follett put the Hillcats on the scoreboard with a single up the middle to bring around
Zack Mann. Two batters later,
Brendan Griffith singled to center, scoring
Brandon Bradshaw.
However, the Hillcats would strand two in the inning, unable to cut the deficit closer than 4-2.
Rogers State would threaten in the ninth, getting two runners on base, but the Hillcats were unable to bridge the gap.
Van Winkle picked up the loss, allowing three runs in 1.2 inning before being pulled.
Joey Lucas and
CJ Edwards both pitched scoreless innings in relief. Lucas went 2.1 innings, with Edwards pitching the final 2.2 innings.
Rogers State will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Newman for the first of three games over two days in a pivotal conference series.
