Cross Country Announces Two Fall Competition Dates, Season Starts October 9

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State cross country Head Coach Matt Kennedy has announced two dates of competition for the men's and women's cross country teams for this fall.

The Hillcats are permitted to compete in cross country after the MIAA CEO Council announced that MIAA schools can pursue limited independent schedules in the sport this fall. These independent events are non-conference contests as permitted per NCAA regulations. However, the MIAA will not conduct a cross country championship this academic year, and it will not crown a champion.

The first of two scheduled races for Rogers State will be on Friday, October 9, as the Hillcats run in the Lions Club Bucks Overland Classic Cross Country Meet hosted by the University of Arkansas – Rich Mountain. The race will be held at the Lions Club Golf Course in Mena, Arkansas. The women will run a 5k, which is set to begin at 10 a.m. The men will run an 8k, which is set for a 10:30 a.m. start.

The Hillcats will also compete on Friday, October 30, running in the 2020 Cross Country Team Championships event, hosted by Newman University. This event will feature MIAA teams who are competing this fall. The women's race will begin at 4 p.m. with the men's race to follow at 4:40 p.m.
