Baseball Falls In Heartbreaker In Series Finale At Missouri Western

ST. JOESPH, Mo. - The Rogers State Baseball team fell to Missouri Western State, 11-10, in the final game of the three-game series this weekend in MIAA play.
 
How it Happened: The Hillcats struck first with three runs in the first inning. An error from the Griffon's first baseman allowed Christian Merriwether to score. Singles from Brandon Bradshaw and Jonathon Soto put two more runs across the plate for the Hillcats.
 
The Griffons tied the game after putting two runs across the plate in the second and one in the third.
 
In the fifth inning the Hillcats put another run on the board with a Bradshaw double.
 
The Hillcats added three more runs in the sixth inning. With the bases load, Davin Kapuras came to the plate hit a pinch-hit double to clear the bases.
 
The Griffons responded with a four-run inning in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at seven.
 
The Navy and Red added a run and went back in front in the seventh with Victor Ceniceros singling to put the Hillcats ahead 8-7.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Griffons put together another four-run inning, to put the Hillcats down by three runs, a deficit they could not overcome in the final two innings.
 
Rogers State put one run across the plate in the top of the eighth inning, with Bradshaw recording another RBI for the Hillcats to score Mason Harvey.
 
In the Hillcats final chance to tie the game, Patrick Reynier put a ball in play to score Cameron Canstaneda to make the score 10-11. However, RSU ran out of outs as the Hillcats had the tying run on first base, but were unable to score.  
 
Key Players: Harvey was 3-for-4 from the plate with two doubles. Harvey also scored three runs and was walked once.
 
In his only at bat of the game, Kapuras recorded three RBIs with his double.
 
Bradshaw was 2-for-5 from the plate with a double. He also recorded three RBIs in the game.
 
Up Next: Rogers State returns home to the Diamond Sports Complex for the first of eight-straight games at home and 11 of the next 12 at the Diamond Sports Complex. Rogers State will begin the home stretch by welcoming in Northwestern Oklahoma State for a single nonconference game on Tuesday, March 8. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
