CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (6-7-1, 1-6 MIAA) came up short against Missouri Western (8-4-2, 5-2 MIAA) on Senior Day in a 2-0 decision on Sunday.
The Hillcats had plenty of opportunities in the first half as the shots were even 8-8 on both sides. However, the Griffons found the back of the next in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead. RSU had an excellent chance to score as Libby Doyle fired in a shot that forced the MWSU goalie to make a diving save, getting enough glove on the ball to knock it away from the goal.
In the final 45 minutes, the Hillcats had even more opportunities as they out shot the Griffons 7-5 in the period. MWSU added to their lead 2-0 with a shot in the 52nd minute. Later in the 56th minute, senior Kori Watters attempted to put RSU on the board as she connected on a shot that sailed just on the outside of the left post. Unfortunately, the Griffons would hang on to take the 2-0 victory.
The Hillcats will be back in action at Soldier Field on Friday, Oct. 22 as they welcome Fort Hays State. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
