BETHANY, Okla. – No. 3-seed Rogers State men's soccer (11-5-3, 7-3-2 GAC/MIAA) battled but came up short against No. 2-seed Fort Hays State (12-5-2, 8-3-1 GAC/MIAA) in the GAC/MIAA Tournament semifinal on Friday.
The match was an evenly fought bout with RSU narrowly outshooting the Tigers 12-11. The first half was a defensive struggle for both sides as the Hillcats outshot FHSU 7-5. RSU had their chances as they got off two shots on goal in the first three minutes. They had their best shot in the 36th minute as Sebastian Hernandez connected on a shot that glanced off a Tiger defender out of harms way. Things stood scoreless heading into the intermission.
In the second period, FHSU scored the match's lone goal in the 46th minute on a shot that was redirected on a header to find the back of the net. Once again, RSU had chances for the equalizer but the Tiger keeper stood tall, saving all three of their shots on goal. FHSU hung on to take the 1-0 win and end the Hillcats season.
