PITTSBURG, Kan. – Rogers State men's track & field team opened up the 6^th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic on Friday with some strong performances and several personal best times.
 
Key Performances: Tyler Melton led the way for top performances on the night with a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Melton broke his previous best in the event by over 32 seconds and also ran the second fastest time in the indoor 5,000-meter run in school history, crossing the line with a time of 15:10.41.
 
Kory Wilson crossed the line nine seconds behind Melton and posted a time of 15:19.46 to take fifth overall in the 5,000-meter run. Wilson's time broke his personal best by over 23 seconds and it also became the fourth fastest in program history in the event.
 
All five Hillcats running in the 5,000-meter run set personal bests in the event. Jean-Benoit Merte also set a personal best in the 600-yard run.
 
Rogers State Results: 600-Yard Run: 7. Carlos Vallejo - 1:17.30,  8. Jean-Benoit Merte - 1:18.32.
 
5,000-Meter Run: 3. Tyler Melton - 15:10.41,  5. Kory Wilson - 15:19.46,  11. Julius Oheim - 15:29.05,  16. Garrison Blanton - 15:36.72,  21. Jackson Stinnett - 15:50.71.
 
Up Next: Rogers State will return to action on Saturday with the final day of the 6th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic. Saturday's races are set to begin at noon.
