ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Rogers State softball dropped a pair of games on Sunday in the final day of the 2021 Hy-Vee Classic, falling to Bemidji State and Minnesota State.
GAME ONE
#9 Rogers State 1, Bemidji State 6

How It Happened
- After a scoreless first inning, Bemidji State took the lead with an RBI single to left center, scoring a runner from second.
- The Beavers would add to their lead in the third with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 2-0. Another single up the middle would extend BSU's lead to 3-0.
- In the fourth, Bemidji would score three runs in the inning, with two coming courtesy of an error and a passed ball., as the Beavers took a 6-0 lead.
- Rogers State would get its first hit of the game in the fifth inning, as Sabrina Anguiano led off the inning with a single and then took second on an error.
- Two batters later, Danelle Day with hit a single up the middle to score Anguiano from second for the only Hillcat run of the game.
Game Notes
- The Hillcats were held hitless through the first four innings.
- Anguiano finished with two of the three hits for Rogers State in the game.
- Delanie Freeze picked up the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in two innings. Freeze finished with five strikeouts and one walk.
- M'Kayla Hillman tossed the final five innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks. Hillman also had six strikeouts.
- Hillman retired the final 11 batters she faced in order, including striking out the side in the fifth inning.

How It Happened
- The Hillcats and Mavericks were in a pitching duel early, as both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings.
- Rogers State would get runners on first and third in the bottom of the first, but stranded the base runners.
- The Hillcats had a baserunner in the second and third, but both were caught stealing to end any scoring threat.
- The first run of the game came in the top of the fourth, as Sidney Nielson hit a solo home run to left field to put Minnesota State up 1-0.
- The Mavericks would double their lead in the fifth on a two-out bloop single to shallow center field that scored a runner from second.
- The Hillcats would get a run back in the bottom of the fifth. Lana Gass walked to lead off the inning and Anguiano followed it up with a double down the left line to score Gass from first.
- Anguiano would make it to third after a sacrifice bunt, but the Hillcats would be unable to get the tying run across after striking out in the next two at bats.
Game Notes
- Rogers State would be outhit 6-3 in the game, but the Hillcats would strand four runners on base, including two at third base.
- The Hillcats were held to just three hits for the second-straight game.
- Anguiano was the only Hillcat to reach base multiple times in the game, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk.
- Andrea Morales picked up the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings. Morales had two strikeouts and did not give up a walk.
- The Hillcats dropped back-to-back games for just the second time this season.

Rogers State will return to the Diamond Sports Complex to begin six-straight games at home on Friday, March 26, as the Hillcats welcome Missouri Western for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. against the Griffons.
