Softball Closes Weekend With Sweep of Northwest Missouri

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State softball bounced back on Saturday with a pair of conference wins against the visiting Northwest Missouri State Bearcats at the Diamond Sports Complex.
 
GAME ONE
#12 Rogers State 6, Missouri Western 0

How It Happened
  • Taille Reding got the scoring for the Hillcats going in the bottom of the first inning hitting a home run over the centerfield fence for her second home run of the season.
  • The Hillcats would go hitless for the next two innings, until the bottom of the fourth, when Abigail Taylor and Jaylan Gibson singled through the infield. However, the Hillcats were unable to capitalize, as the two Hillcats were left on base.
  • The Hillcats would break through and score five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Reding and Faren Walker would get the scoring to started on a two-RBI single through the left side by Taylor.
  • Two batters later, Jackie Zaferes scored off of a Bearcat wild pitch.
  • Elexis Watson would finished the inning with a two-run homer to seal the game for the Hillcats.
Game Notes
  • Andrea Morales had seven strikeouts and allowed two hits in seven innings of work.
  • Reding finished the day 2-for-3 from the plate with a home run.
  • Watson finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBIs on the home run.
  • Makayla Bowman, Danelle Day and Payton Stroud all had walks in the contest.
  • Rogers State had seven hits in the game, while Northwest Missouri had only two.
  • The Hillcats snapped a four-game losing streak with the win in game one.

How It Happened
  • Watson started game two with a two-RBI single to right-center field, as Day and Bowman were able to score the game's first two runs.
  • The Bearcats were able to capitalize with a home run in the top of the second inning to cut the Hillcat lead in half.
  • Day would score her second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth after Taylor hit an RBI single to the third base.
  • Kimberli Presnell would hit an RBI single to center field later in the inning to send in Watson, as the Hillcats went up 4-1.
  • In the fifth inning, the Bearcats would add a run after a Hillcat error to cut the deficit to 4-2.
  • Taylor wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to bring around Gibson for the Hillcats' fifth run.
Game Notes
  • Watson finished 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs and a run.
  • Day went 1-for-2 at the plate with a hit by pitch and had two runs.
  • Hillman picked up the win for the Hillcats in the circle. She allowed just one earned run with three strikeouts and six hits against.

Up Next
Following back-to-back MIAA series, the Hillcats will jump back into non-conference action with a top-15 showdown at the Diamond Sports Complex in a mid-week battle against No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday. The Hillcats will take on the Lions in the doubleheader on March 30, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
