Topeka, Kan. – The Rogers State baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader to the Washburn Ichabods but drop the first-ever series between the two programs this weekend at Falley Field.

How It Happened
● The Hillcats were able to get on the board first in the top of the first after
Kyle Simms was walked with the bases loaded, which sent
Brooks Betcher in for a run.
- On the very next at-bat, Jonathan Soto was hit by a pitch that sent in Prescott Horn for the second run of the inning.
- The Ichabods responded with an RBI triple to center field in the second inning to start their scoring in the contest.
- Washburn would add five more runs in the third inning to take the lead over Rogers State.
- Brandon Bradshaw hit an RBI single to the right side in the fifth, which sent Betcher in for his second run of the game.
- The Ichabods responded in the fifth when they scored on a Hillcat error.
- Washburn added to their tally with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Davin Kapuras scored the final run of the game for the Hillcats in the ninth off of a fielder's choice.
Game Notes
● Betcher went 1-for-3 from the plate in the game, with two runs and a walk.
- Horn had a 1-for-3 game as well with a run and a walk.
- Soto went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Sims, Rivera, and Bradshaw each had RBIs..
- Jordan Ewig picked up his first loss of the season. He had two strikeouts in the game.
- Sean Craig led the Hillcats out of the bullpen with five strikeouts.

How It Happened
● Washburn began the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double down the left-field line.
- Christian Merriwether hit a three-run home run to left field in the second to score Soto and Simms and gave the Hillcats their first lead of the game.
- The Ichabods responded with an RBI single in the third and regained the lead with a three-run home run of their own later in the inning.
- Soto would tie things back up in the fourth with a two-run shot to left field, scoring Jerry Davis for his first run.
- However, in the bottom of the inning the Ichabods had a two-run shot of their own and an unearned run on a single to extend their lead.
- Bradshaw would inch the Hillcats closer with a two-RBI single up the middle in the fifth inning, scoring Horn and Mason Harvey.
- Bradshaw would then tie things up again after he scored off of a fielder's choice that gave Soto an RBI.
● The Hillcats would regain the lead in the eight after Horn tripled to right field and scored on an Ichabod error, which also sent in Betcher to put RSU ahead 10-8.
Game Notes
- Davis went a perfect 4-for-4 with a run and a walk.
- Horn went 3-for-5 from the plate in game three, with two runs and an RBI.
- Bradshaw went 2-for-4 with two RBI's, a run, and a walk.
- Soto went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs.
- Merriwether also had three RBI's.
● Riggio picked up his first win of the season from the mound. He had a game-high five strikeouts in two innings. .
Up Next
The Hillcats will make a trip to Wichita, Kansas to take on the Newman Jets in a three-game series next weekend. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday afternoon.
