Hillcats Drop Doubleheader to Close Home Schedule

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State baseball closed out the home schedule for the 2021 season on Saturday with a doubleheader loss to Central Oklahoma.
 
GAME ONE
Rogers State 1, Central Oklahoma 6

How It Happened
  • The Bronchos would jump out in front early, as Central Oklahoma used a pair of RBI doubles to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • Central Oklahoma added to their lead in the third with three runs. The Bronchos started the scoring in the inning with an RBI double. They would add a run on a sacrifice fly and then took a 5-0 lead with an RBI single.
  • The Bronchos would add one more run in the fourth inning on an RBI ground out.
  • The Hillcats would score their only run of the game in the fourth inning as Mason Harvey doubled home Victor Ceniceros for the final run of the contest.
 Game Notes
  • Christian Merriwether had the only multi-hit game for the Hillcats, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Brooks Betcher had a pair of walks for the Hillcats.
  • Sean Craig had the top performance out of the bullpen, recording two strikeouts without allowing a hit or a walk.
  • The Hillcats were outhit 10-9 in the game and the Hillcats stranded eight base runners.

How It Happened
  • After two scoreless innings, Rogers State took the lead on Jonathan Soto's solo home run over the left field fence.
  • Senior Corey Murphy carried a no hitter into the sixth inning before Central Oklahoma picked up their first hit with two outs in the inning.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Hillcats would get two runners on, but the Hillcats were unable to add to their 1-0 lead.
  • Central Oklahoma would tie the game in the eighth inning with a two-out single.
  • In the ninth, the Bronchos would take the lead on back-to-back singles to go up 3-1.
  • Rogers State would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but the Hillcats grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Game Notes
  • The Hillcats were held to two hits in the game, while Central Oklahoma finished with five hits.
  • Murphy finished the game going 7.2 innings, allowing just three hits and one unearned run. He finished with six strikeouts.
  • Soto finished with the home run and a walk.
  • Jerry Davis had the other hit for the Hillcats.
  • Brooks Betcher and Davin Kapuras also had walks.
 Up Next
Rogers State will travel to Joplin, Missouri next weekend to wrap up the regular season with a three-game series at Missouri Southern. The Hillcats and Lions will meet for a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. with a single game set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
