Rogers State Softball Falls In MIAA Championship Game

EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State softball's run in the MIAA Tournament came to a close on Saturday as the Hillcats fell 6-5 to Central Missouri in the MIAA Championship game.

Rogers State 5, Central Missouri 6
Records:  Rogers State (34-15-1)  |  Central Missouri (36-12)
W: Sadie Parks (11-3)  |  L: M'Kayla Hillman (9-5)

How It Happened
  • It was a pitching battle early, as both starting pitchers carried no-hit bids into the fourth innings.
  • Central Missouri struck first as Jessica Sader hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.
  • The Jennies would load the bases later in the fifth and a fly ball down the right field line got past the diving effort of Lana Gass and all three base runners would score on the triple.
  • The Hillcats would answer back in the bottom of the sixth inning. After fouling a ball up and off her face that resulted in a delay, Sabrina Anguiano composed herself and stepped back in to hit a solo home run to left field for the first Hillcat run of the game.
  • With the momentum gained, the Hillcats would get two base runners on later in the inning and Makayla Bowman tied the game with a three-run home run to make it 4-4.
  • However, the Hillcats would have two errors in the top of the seventh inning, with the second error allowing two Central Missouri runs to score with two outs.
  • Rogers Sate would get one run back in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly, but the tying run was stranded at first to end the game.
Game Notes
  • Bowman and Danelle Day each finished with two hits in the game. Bowman was 2-for-4 with the three RBIs and a run scored. Day finished 2-for-3.
  • Anguiano finished 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.
  • Allie McFetridge had a pinch-hit single and Gass recorded the other Hillcat hit.
  • M'Kayla Hillman picked up the hard luck loss as she gave up two unearned runs on one hit in two innings of work. Hillman had no walks or hit baters and had one strikeout.
  • Andrea Morales started the game and went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits with six strikeouts.
  • Rogers State finished the MIAA Tournament at 2-2.
