No. 17 Hillcats Force Draw Against Oklahoma Christian On The Road

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 17 Rogers State men's soccer (3-1-1) forced a draw 1-1 with Oklahoma Christian (1-1-2) on the road on Thursday.

Jordan Watson scored the lone goal in the match for the Hillcats. Declan Vijoen played well in goal registering five saves and only allowing one goal. Michael Turner was also a vital part of the RSU defense, clearing out multiple goal attempts throughout the match.

The Eagles looked to pressure the Hillcats in the opening half as they out shot RSU 13-6 in the first 45 minutes. However, the Hillcat defense was up to the challenge as they forced the home team into poor shot selection with only three of their 13 shots on goal. The RSU offense was more strategic and looked to make their shots count as three of their six first half shots were on goal. The selectiveness of the offense paid off as Watson connected for the first goal of the match on a pass from Ruben Carrasco in the 36th minute, giving the Hillcats a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

The second half looked to be more of the same as OC once again out shot RSU 10-3. Unfortunately, it was the Eagles who found the back of the net this time as they scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute. They eventually forced overtime as the score remained 1-1 at end of regulation.

In both overtime periods, each of the defenses buckled down as only four total shots were taken. Grant King attempted to win the game for the Hillcats in the 96th minute as he fired in a shot only for it to be saved by the Eagle keeper. The game ended in draw after the two overtime periods.

RSU will be back in action as they return home on Saturday, Sept. 18 to play host to UT Tyler. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
