CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 12 Roger State men's soccer (1-0) opened the season with a bang as they took down Rockhurst in 5-0 shutout.
RSU spread the love around as four different Hillcats found the back of the net in the win. Ruben Carrasco, Harry Outterside, D'Waylan McIntosh and George Robinson all found themselves in the scoring column on the night.
Freshman goalkeeper Declan Viljoen was spectacular between the posts in his first career start turning in a clean sheet with three saves. Freshman Blake Classen also saw action in goal as he helped keep the shutout alive in the final 15 minutes.
The Hillcats wasted no time getting started as Carrasco scored the first of his two goals just three minutes into the match with Jordan Watson and Jaxon Pitt getting the assists. He followed it with his second goal eight minutes later in the 10th minute on another pass from Watson. Outterside kept the train rolling with a goal in the 18th minute on a pass from Michael Turner. D'Waylan McIntosh closed out the scoring frenzy that was the first half with a goal of his own from Watson to put RSU up 4-0 going into the break in the 43rd minute.
The second half was not nearly as chaotic as the first, as both teams settled in. However, the Hillcats were not done scoring as George Robinson added one final goal on a pass from Matthew Sweetman in the 73rd minute to give RSU the 5-0 victory.
The Hillcats will be back in action as they travel to Saint Charles, Mo. to face off against Lindenwood. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
