Box Score CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer dropped its first game of the season in a highly contested match to Central Oklahoma in the non-conference finale at Soldier Field on Friday.
Audrey Cook and
Morgan Martucci both came off the bench to score goals for the Hillcats (5-1-1, 0-0 MIAA), as they fell to the Bronchos (4-2-1,0-0) 3-2.
The Bronchos struck first with a goal seven minutes into the game, as a shot from Taryn Kedzoir sailed over the head of Hillcat goalkeeper
Savannah Harvey.
UCO would extend its lead in the 38th minute after Monika McGee connect on her first of two goals in the contest.
As the half was coming to an end, Cook put the Hillcats on the board, converting a penalty kick that snuck by the keeper, Kailyn Asher, with less than a minute left in the first half of play.
In the first half, the Bronchos controlled the time of possession, as they outshot the Hillcats 10-4, with seven of their shots on goal while the Hillcats only managed one shot on goal.
McGee would continue her scoring ways in the second half, as she pushed the Bronchos lead to 3-1 after connecting on a close-range shot off a deflected free kick in the 64th minute.
Two minutes later, Martucci responded with a deep shot from outside of the box that sailed into the left corner of the goal, to cut the Broncos lead to one goal.
The Hillcats saw the equalizer slip through their fingers with a near-miss in the 85
th minute. The Bronchos would hang on for the final five minutes of the game to defeat RSU.
The Hillcats return to action on Sunday, September 26th, as they host the Newman Jets in the MIAA opener. The kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at Soldier Field in Claremore.
