CLAREMORE, Okla.– Rogers State baseball (0-4) dropped a doubleheader 5-2 and 13-3 to Colorado School of Mines (5-0) in the home opener on Friday.

GAME ONE – Mines 5, RSU 3

After both pitching staffs worked scoreless frames to start the game, Mines jumped out to a early 2-0 lead in the second inning. A sacrifice fly to right scored the first run, with the other coming home as a runner from first got caught stealing.

The Hillcats responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second to tie things at 2-2.
Rece Parker plated
Jonathan Soto with a RBI triple down the right field line. Marcos Barrera then brought in Parker with a RBI single to center.

The Orediggers pushed the lead back out to 4-2 with two runs in the top of the third. The first run came in on a RBI single to center, while the other run scored on another RBI single to right center.

Mines would get one final run in the top of the fifth on a RBI single to right center to seal the 5-2 win.
Â
Kevin Zapanta (2-0) earned the win, with Zachary Kriethe (1) earning the save.
Jason Gomez (0-1) took the loss.

GAME TWO – Mines 13, RSU 3
Â
Just like in the first game, both pitchers threw scoreless opening frames.
Â
Mines got the scoring started in the second inning with an early 3-0 lead. The first run crossed home on a RBI double to right center. The other two runs came in a home run to the right field corner. The Hillcats cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom half as
Jesse Holguin answered with a leadoff homer of his own.

The Orediggers expanded their lead back out to 4-1 with a run in the third inning off another solo home run to right field corner.

Mines tacked on two more runs in the fourth to go up 6-1. The first came in on a RBI single through the left side of the infield, with the other run crossing on a sacrifice fly to center. RSU got a run in the bottom of the inning to trim the lead to 6-2 thanks to
Kyle Simms driving in Holguin on a RBI single up the middle.

The Orediggers exploded for five runs in the fifth to push out to 11-2. A RBI single to left scored the first run, with the other four runs coming on a wild pitch and a three-run home run over the right center field wall. They added another run in the seventh on solo homer to left, their fourth of the game.

The Hillcats got another run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 12-3.
Connor Womack scored as A.J. Folds grounded out to second.

Mines got their final run in the ninth inning to seal the 13-3 win. The run scored as the batter grounded into a double play.

Brayden Weyer (1-0) earned the win.
Andrew McGlynn (0-1) took the loss.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow for the third game of the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
