ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Rogers State baseball (14-11, 9-4 MIAA) completed their second-straight series sweep with the 12-5 win over Missouri Western (4-18, 2-11 MIAA) on Monday.

In the win,
Gavin Mestas tied the single game school record for stolen bases swiping four bags, matching both Greg Speed's and Kevin Radford's marks set in 2008 and 2011, respectively.

The Hillcats got on the board early as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Jesse Holguin brought in Mestas with a RBI single up the middle.
Kyle Simms later returned the favor driving in Holguin with his own RBI single up the middle. They added a run in the third inning to push out to a 3-0 lead thanks to Holguin plating Mestas again, this time on a RBI groundout to the shortstop.

In the top of the fourth, the Hillcats broke the game open as they exploded for six runs to extend their lead to 9-0. Simms and
Prescott Horn got things started as they crossed home on a error by the pitcher.
Ethan Rivera then scored on a different error by the pitcher.
Victor Ceniceros came in on a RBI single to right from Mestas.
Marco Barrera scored on a sacrifice fly to left from
Jonathan Soto.
Skyler Nelson capped off the inning by driving in Mestas with a RBI double to right center.

The Griffons finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth and cut the deficit to 9-2. A two RBI double down the right field line scored both runs. They added two more runs in the fifth trimming the lead to 9-4 with a two RBI double to right center.

RSU tacked on a run in the top of the sixth to push back out to 10-4. Nelson plated Mestas with a RBI single to right center.

The Hillcats sealed the win with two final runs in the seventh. Both Rivera and Ceniceros came in on a two RBI single to left center from Mestas.

Jason Gomez (1-1) earned his first win of the season going 5.0 inning with two strikeouts. Jordan Akins (2-4) took the loss.

RSU will be back in action on Wednesday, March 23 as they travel to Ada, Okla. for a mid-week matchup against East Central. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
