JOPLIN, Mo. – Rogers State baseball (15-15, 9-8 MIAA) dropped the second game of the conference mid-week series 25-2 to Missouri Southern (19-12, 10-7 MIAA) on Tuesday.

The Lions jumped on the board with a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The first run scored on a sacrifice fly to right. Two more runs scored on a two RBI single to center. The final run scored on a wild pitch.

They added three more runs in the bottom of the second to push out to 7-0. A RBI single to third scored a run with the other two runs scoring on a RBI single up the middle and a RBI fielder's choice, respectively. MSSU tacked on another run in the bottom of the third to go up 8-0 on a sacrifice fly to center.

The Lions exploded for 13 runs on seven hits and three errors in the bottom of the fourth to take a 21-0 lead.

The Hillcats finally got on the board in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to 21-2. Gavin Mestas drove in Marco Barrera with a RBI double to right center. Joel Escalante later scored Mestas with  RBI single up the middle.

MSSU pushed across four final runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 25-2 win. A run crossed on a RBI single up the middle with the other three runs coming on a three run blast over the right field wall.

Cole Gayman (5-1) earned the win. Vinny Riggio (0-2) took the loss.

RSU will return to action on Friday, April 1 as they come home to the Diamond Sports Complex and host Emporia State for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
