RSU Sweeps Harding In Mid-Week Doubleheader

CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 8 Rogers State softball (38-6) notched two wins as they swept Harding (32-16) in a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday.

GAME ONE - RSU 8, HU 0 5 Innings

The first game began as a pitcher's duel with neither starter giving up a run and only allowing one hit apiece in the first two innings.

The Hillcats broke the seal in the third inning as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Makayla Bowman got the offense started with a solo homer over the left field wall to lead off the inning. Abbey Rogers later drove in Chelsea Spain with a RBI single down the left field line. Bridgett Morales plated Lana Gass with a RBI double to left center.

In the fifth inning, RSU exploded for five runs to claim the victory 8-0. Rogers uncorked a three-run blast to the left field corner, scoring Tailee Reding and Nicole Price. Jaylan Gibson followed that up with a solo round-tripper to left. Spain walked the game off with a RBI single to left center that brought in Marissa Smith as the winning run.

Andrea Morales (22-2) earned the complete game shutout with six strikeouts. Lily Tanski (11-7) took the loss.

GAME TWO - RSU 4, HU 2

In the second game, the Lady Bison got on the board first with an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Both runs came on a two RBI double to right center.

After being no-hit through the first three innings, the Hillcats came alive with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Chelsea Spain got things started with a leadoff solo homer to left. Callie Yellin followed that up with a three-run blast of her own to straight away center plating Jaylan Gibson and Nicole Price.

Both pitching staffs worked the final three innings without giving up a run and scattering one hit apiece.

M'Kayla Hillman (13-4) earned the complete game win by retiring 17 straight batters after the first inning. Meagan Pistokache (11-7) took the loss.

The Hillcats return to action on Friday, April 22 as they travel to Emporia, Kan. for a conference matchup against Emporia State. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
