RSU Punches Ticket To MIAA Tournament Championship With Win Over Washburn

EDMOND, Okla. – No. 3-seed Rogers State softball (46-9) earned their way into the MIAA Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over No. 1-seed Washburn in the tournament semifinal on Saturday.

With the two best pitchers in the league facing off against each other, it looked as though runs would come at a premium from the outset. In fact, both starters held the game scoreless through the first two innings.

The Ichabods got on the board first with a 1-0 lead in the third inning. A RBI single to third brought in the first run of the game.

The Hillcats responded in the fifth inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Kimberli Presnell led off with a double to left center. Chelsea Spain then drove her in with a RBI triple to right center. Nicole Price returned the favor with a RBI single to center that scored Spain.

Neither team was able to scratch across another run in the final two innings as they managed a total of three hits between them and left all three runners stranded.

Andrea Morales (29-3) earned the complete game win with 10 strikeouts. Jaycee Ginter (30-4) took the loss.

With the win, the Hillcats advance to the tournament final and will face the winner of No. 1-seed Washburn and No. 4-seed Missouri Western in the Championship. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
