Robinson Leads No. 22 RSU With Hat Trick In Dominant Road Win Over Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. – No. 22 Rogers State men's soccer (8-3-2, 5-2 GAC/MIAA) looked dominant in a 7-0 rout of Fort Hays State (4-6-2, 3-2-2 GAC/MIAA) in a road contest on Saturday.

Five Hillcats found their way onto the scoresheet in the win. George Robinson posted a hat trick, scoring three times, while Trindon Turner, Luke Morgan, Hugo Martin and Marcos Vasallo all found the back of the net once. Declan Viljoen (7-3) earned the win making six saves in goal with Blake Classen making a save after coming in for the final 15 minutes.

Both teams tried to get their offenses going early as they each tested the opposing keeper early on with two shots on goal apiece in the first 20 minutes. The Hillcats broke through in the 24th minute as Robinson scored his first goal of the match off a pass from Vasallo. Turner then struck in the 35th minute with an assist from Morgan to increase the lead to 2-0. Things settled in for the remaining 10 minutes as FHSU actually outshot RSU 7-5 in the half, but it was the Hillcats that had 5 shots on target compared to four for the Tigers.

The second half was all RSU as Robinson found the back of the net for the second time just four minutes into the period with another assist from Vasallo to go up 3-0. Just three short minutes later, in the 52nd minute Morgan knocked in a goal off a pass from Robinson. Robinson scored for the third and final time in 62nd minute to make it a 5-0 game. In the 68th minute, Hugo Martin got in on the scoring fun as he found the back of the net after two quick passes from Ruben Carrasco and Matthew O'Reilly. Marcos Vasallo closed out the scoring in the 86th minute with his league-leading 10th goal of the season with an assist from Harry Outterside to seal the 7-0 victory.

The Hillcats return home on Thursday, Oct. 19 as they welcome archrival Northeastern State into the friendly confines of Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
