EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (6-9-2, 4-7 MIAA) could not complete the comeback against Central Oklahoma (5-6-6, 2-4-4 MIAA) on Friday as they came up short in the 2-1 game.
Alix Tirado scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season with RSU's lone goal of the match.
Tiffany Brittan (5-9) made four saves while allowing two goals.
Both sides wasted little time getting their offenses going as both sides tested the keepers early. Unfortunately, the Bronchos broke the ice in the 16th minute as they scored the first goal of the match off a corner kick. They would find the back of the net again in the 28th minute off another corner kick. The Hillcats went to work building an attack and managed to get on the board in the 40th minute as Tirado fired in a shot to trim the deficit to 2-1 headed into the break.
The second half saw the defense pressure take over for both sides. UCO managed to outshoot RSU 10-6 in the period, with three shots on target to two. The Hillcats had two opportunities to equalize as
Morgan Martucci for the Broncho keeper to make a save int eh 48th minute, with Tirado making a late try in the 86th minute only for it to be saved as well.
The Hillcats will return home on Sunday, Oct. 29 for the regular season finale as they host rival Northeastern State on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
