HAYS, Kan. – Rogers State baseball (14-7, 3-5 MIAA) came back from a 9-4 deficit to take a 15-10 win in the second game of the series against Fort Hays State (9-13, 2-7 MIAA) on Saturday.

It was the Hillcats who struck first taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Marco Barrera launched a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall for a solo homer.

The Tigers answered in the home half of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Both runs came in on a two RBI single to right center.

They added a run to push out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a solo homer to left.

RSU went back in front 4-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth.
Prescott Horn singled through the left side of the infield to lead off the frame.
Jesse Holguin followed suit with a single to center. Both runners moved into scoring position on a throwing error by the pitcher on a failed pickoff attempt.
Jhonmy Martinez drove in Horn as he grounded out to second.
Joel Escalante plated Holguin with a sacrifice fly to left.
Carson Cheatwood earned a 3-1 walk.
Jake Mitchell put runners at first and second with two outs as he reached on fielding error by the third baseman.
Ramon Torres scored Cheatwood with a single to short.

FHSU responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to go back up 6-4. The first run scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. The other two runs scored on a single down the right field line.

The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the fifth to expand their lead to 9-4. Another solo homer scored the first run with the other runs coming in on a RBI double to left and a wild pitch with a runner on third.

In the top of the seventh, the Hillcat bats exploded for 11 runs to take back a 15-9 lead. In the inning, Mitchell and Holguin launched solo shots while Horn and
Conner Womack blasted three run bombs in the frame. Mitchell also scored Martinez with a sacrifice fly, while Torres scored Escalante on a single and Cheatwood scored on a wild pitch.

FHSU would get a run back in the bottom of the seventh to cut the margin to 15-10. The run scored on a wild pitch.

Matthew Herron (1-0) earned his first win of the season working 2.0 innings out of the bullpen, only allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
Quinn Tocheniuk and
Octavio Sanchez were also great of the bullpen combining for the final 2.1 innings scattering two hits without allowing a run with three strikeouts. Conner Holle (1-2) took the loss.

The Hillcats will look the to win the series in the series finale tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
