CLAREMORE, Okla. – A
Prescott Horn single to left lifted Rogers State baseball (18-8) to a 9-8 win over Southern Nazarene (13-16) in a mid-week renewing of an old rivalry on Wednesday.

After both starters worked scoreless frames to open the game, the Crimson Storm got on the board first with an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. The run scored from third on a throwing error by the third baseman.

SNU added three more runs in the top of the third to go up 4-0. A 10-pitch bases loaded walk brought in the first run. A run scored on a fielder's choice with another run scoring from second on a fielding error by the third baseman on the same play.

The Hillcat bats finally came alive in the home half of the fourth as they exploded for six runs to take their first lead of the day at 6-4.
Prescott Horn led off the frame with a double to left.
Gavin Mestas then earned a full count walk. Horn moved to third on a wild pitch to put runners at the corners.
Geovanni Blackshaw singled to right to plate Horn.
Conner Womack moved the runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher.
Carson Cheatwood dropped a single into center to score both Mestas and Blackshaw. Cheatwood then moved to second on a passed ball.
Jake Mitchell traded places with him hitting a double to left field, scoring Cheatwood.
Ramon Torres drove in Mitchell with a single to left, and advanced to second on the throw.
AJ Folds then singled through the left side of the infield to put runners at the corners with one out.
Joel Escalante scored Torres with a sacrifice bunt to first.

RSU added to its margin at 8-4 with two more runs in the fifth inning. Womack earned a seven-pitch walk with one out. On the first pitch he saw, Cheatwood launched his first home run as a Hillcat with a moonshot well over the left field wall, plating Womack.

The Crimson Storm came roaring back with three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to one run at 8-7. Two runs scored on a triple to the right centerfield wall while the batter scored on a throwing error by the second baseman on the cutoff.

SNU would tie the game at 8-8 in the top of the eighth with a run scoring from third on a sacrifice bunt to pitcher.

Facing a dire straits, Folds led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to deep left field and then proceeded to steal third. Escalante battled back from an 0-2 count to earn a full count walk to put runners at the corners, and then swiped second. On 3-1 count, Horn played hero as he laced a ball into left field to walk off the game as Folds crossed home plate.

Octavio Sanchez (3-0) earned the win as he came from the bullpen to work the final 2.0 innings allowing one hit with two strikeouts and only needed 19 pitches to end the game. Lane Behymer (1-4) took the loss.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Friday, March 22 as the Central Missouri Mules come calling to the Diamond Sports Complex for the first game of a three-game set. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
