CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer (0-0-1) fought to a 0-0 draw with Missouri S&T (0-0-1) in the season opener on Friday.

Declan Viljoen registered his first shutout of the season, making five saves.

After a brief offensive attack from the Miners to open the game, the Hillcats took over and controlled possession of the ball for most of the first half, outshooting S&T 11-4 with seven shots on goal compared to just two, while also earning eight corner kicks to two. RSU had two great opportunities to score but the Miners goalkeeper made incredible saves on both shots to keep the stalemate alive.

The second half saw more of a defensive back-and-forth with the Hillcats still trying to keep the offensive pressure on. RSU managed to outshoot S&T 9-5 in the second half with three shots on goal to two. As the clock began winding down, play began to get more aggressive with 11 total fouls in the second half compared to just six in the first half.

The Hillcats will close out the season opening homestand on Sunday, Sept. 3 as they play host to Drury. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
