PUEBLO, Colo. – No. 13 Rogers State men's soccer (2-1-2) battled No. 4 CSU Pueblo (4-0-1) to a hard fought 3-1 loss on the road on Thursday.
Â
Trindon Turner netted his first goal of the year with
Luke Morgan picking up the assist on the Hillcats' lone goal of the match.
Declan Viljoen (2-1) made two saves while allowing three goals.
Â
The match began with both teams feeling each other out in the early minutes. After earning free kick in the 13th minute,
Trindon Turner knocked in the first goal of the night off the foot of
Luke Morgan to put the Hillcats up 1-0. The Thunderwolves would later equalize in the 25th minute to pull even at 1-1, where it stayed until the break. Outside of the two goals, the first 45 minutes saw heavy defensive efforts on both sides with the Pack only taking three shots to RSU's one.
Â
The Thunderwolves wasted no time getting back to business in the second half as they broke the stalemate just over four minutes in with a goal to take their first lead at 2-1 in the 49th minute. They struck again in the 61st minute to increase their lead to 3-1. The suffocating CSU Pueblo defense carried over from the first period as they limited the Hillcats to just three shots in the half, none of which were on target.
Â
RSU will need a short memory as they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday, Sept 16 for another ranked matchup, this time against No. 14 UC Colorado Springs. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. central time.
