CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State women's soccer (2-11-3, 1-6-3 MIAA) gave everything they had defensively on senior night but came up short against Nebraska Kearney (7-4-5, 3-4-3 MIAA), losing the contest 1-0 at Soldier Field.
Â
"We did not get into any type of rhythm on offense," said Head Coach
Chris Jones. "There were so many emotions with senior night, which took us out of our game plan. But in the second half, we made some adjustments and challenged them. Soccer is a cruel game sometimes, as the ball did not bounce our way and we missed way too many opportunities."
Â
Despite giving up one goal late in the second half, senior goalkeeper
Tiffany Brittan made eight saves.
Â
UNK owned the Hillcats on offense in the first half, as they outshot RSU 11-4. Three of the Lopers shots were on goal, and RSU tallied two shots on goal.Â
Â
In the 11th minute, RSU had their first chance to score when a penalty kick was called in the box. Senior
Alix Tirado-Negrete took the shot, but missed less than an inch to the left. In the 35th minute, Tirado-Negrete almost scored again, but the goalkeeper made the save. Late in the first half, the Hillcats almost scored when
Delana King took a shot on goal, but was saved.
Â
In the second half, RSU was limited in its offensive opportunities again, as the Lopers outshot RSU 12-4. UNK took six shots on goals, and the Hillcats tallied one shot on goal.
Â
The Lopers scored the lone goal in the game in the 81st minute. RSU went all in on offense in the 83
rd minute and nearly scored a 40-yard shot taken by
Amaya Davis, but it sailed an inch above the crossbar.
Anna Hibbard also took a shot in the 84th minute but missed.
Hope Jensen took a shot in the 87th minute, but a UNK defender blocked the shot.
Â
The Hillcats return to the pitch on Sunday, Nov. 3rd as they host Fort Hays State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., at Soldier Field.
