CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State baseball (3-3) claimed the four-game series but split the series finale doubleheader against Colorado Christian (1-6) on Saturday.

GAME 1 – RSU 3, CCU 1

The first game of the day was a classic pitchers' duel with neither starter allowing a run in the first four innings. RSU allowed only one hit over that span while the Cougars only allowed one hit but stranded four Hillcat runners.

CCU finally broke the stalemate in the fifth inning as they pushed across one run for a 1-0 lead. The run came in on a RBI groundout to second.

The Hillcats answered in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to claim the 3-1 win.
Jake Mitchell brought in
Major Due for the first run with a bases loaded walk.
Alex Dehzad then plated
Carson Cheatwood with a sacrifice fly to right.
Joel Escalante scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.

Landon Riley (1-0) earned his first win of the season working 2.0 innings out of the bullpen, only allowing one hit with no earned runs and a strikeout.
Octavio Sanchez (1) notched his first save of the season closing out the seventh inning with only one hit and two strikeouts.
Christopher Spry was also excellent in his 4.0 inning start, only giving up one hit with three strikeouts. Carson Summerfield (0-1) suffered the loss.

GAME 2 – CCU 10, RSU 3

The second game was the complete opposite of the first as RSU jumped on the board with a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Matthew Delgado drove in
Matthew Schure with a double to left.

The Cougars exploded for five runs in the top of the second to take a 5-1 lead. Two singles through the right side of the infield scored the first three runs. A bases loaded hit-by-pitch and walk brought in the other two runs.

CCU added to their lead with a run in the third inning to go up 6-1. The run scored on a RBI fielder's choice to second.

The Hillcats got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth to trim the deficit to 6-3.
Gabe Russell crossed home on an Escalante double to right. Escalante later scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Richie Ponce.

In the top of the sixth, the Cougars tacked on another run to push out to a 7-3 advantage. A solo homer to the right field corner scored the run.

They sealed the 10-3 win with three final runs in the eighth inning. Two runs came across on a double to center with the other run coming in on a single through the right side of the infield.

Jaxon Simmons (1-0) earned the win.
Nate Wohlgemuth (0-1) took the loss.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 16 as they open a three-game series against McKendree inside the friendly confines of the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m
