Hillcats Take Down Rangers In Mid-Week Tilt

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State baseball (11-3) took down Northwestern Oklahoma State (11-5) with a 3-2 win in a mid-week, non-conference contest on Tuesday.

After two scoreless frames to start, the Hillcats jumped on the board first with a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Ramon Torres led off the inning with a 3-1 walk. With a sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle moving him to third with one out, Torres came home on an AJ Folds sacrifice fly to left.

The Rangers responded in the top of the fourth with two runs to go up 2-1. Both runs scored on a two RBI single to center.

RSU answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to knot things at 2-2. Geovanni Blackshaw drove in Royce Tsumura from third with a single down the left field line.

The Hillcats scored the winning run in the eighth to seal the 3-2 victory. Joel Escalante singled up the middle to start the frame. He moved to second on a Matthew Delgado ground out to third and then to third on a wild pitch. On a full count pitch, Ryan Tiger brought in Escalante as he laced a RBI single into center field.

Connor Hall (1-0) earned his first win of the season working 2.0 innings in relief without allowing a hit or a run with one strikeout. Landon Riley (2) earned the save, coming in to slam the door in the ninth with no hits or runs and a strikeout. Kyle Gscheidle (1-1) took the loss.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Friday, March 1 as they return to MIAA play hosting Fort Hays State in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
