No. 19 Hillcats Take Down Angelo State At D2 First Pitch Invitational

CONROE, Texas – Rogers State softball (4-1) took a 6-3 win over Angelo State (4-1) on the final day of the D2 First Pitch Invitational.

After a scoreless first inning, the Rambelles got on the board first after taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. A RBI single to left drove in the run from second.

The Hillcats answered back in the second inning with two runs to take their first lead at 2-1. With one out and the bases loaded, Ashtyn Barret reached on a RBI fielder's choice that allowed Paxton Donaldson to score from third. Marissa Smith also scored from second on a throwing error by the shortstop.

ASU responded in the bottom half of the inning to go back up 3-2. A two RBI double to right center scored both runs.

RSU retook the lead at 4-3 in the top of the fifth with two more runs. Again with the bases loaded and one out, this time Abbey Rogers stepped up and drove in both Donaldson and Lana Gass with a single to left.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Hillcats added two final insurance runs to seal the 6-3 win. Donaldson completed her 3-for-3 day at the plate blasting a two RBI triple to right center that brought in Gass and Mariah Belzer.

Harley Culie (1-0) earned her first win of the season throwing 4.0 innings out of the bullpen, only allowing three hits and one earned run with four strikeouts. Sara Llamas-Howell was excellent in her 3.0 inning start, scattering five hits while only allowing one earned run with a strikeout. Matie Wolkow (0-1) suffered the loss.
