Hillcats Split MIAA Twin Bill With Jennies

CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 3 Rogers State (27-5, 11-1 MIAA) split a MIAA twin bill against Central Missouri (16-17, 5-7 MIAA) on Friday with scores of 4-2 and 1-0 in eight innings.

GAME 1 – UCM 4, RSU 2

In the first game of the day, the Hillcats jumped out to 1-0 lead in the first inning. Lana Gass led things off as she worked a seven-pitch walk to start the frame. A Paxton Donaldson sacrifice bunt moved Gass to second. After Bridgett Morales moved her to third with a single up the middle, Abbey Rogers brought Gass in with a sacrifice fly to left.

A pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the fifth put the Jennies in front 4-1.

RSU was able to push across one more run in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 4-2 but couldn't complete the comeback.

Paige Petefish (5-5) earned the win, with Andi Siebeneck (3) earning the save. Sara Llamas-Howell (13-3) took the loss.

After shutdown 1-2-3 top half, Chelsea Spain led off the bottom of the eighth with a first pitch single through the right side of the infield. Lana Gass moved her over to second with a sacrifice bunt. Bridgett Morales walked the game off on a 1-0 pitch as she reached on a fielding error by the right fielder, which allowed Spain to score from second.
