CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State baseball (22-21, 12-18 MIAA) fell 11-2 to No. 2 Central Missouri (40-5, 27-3 MIAA) in the regular season home finale on Sunday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mules jumped on the board with an early 4-0 lead in the second. The first run came in from third on a balk. Two singles up the middle and through the left side of the infield, respectively, brought in the next two runs. A sacrifice fly to right scored the fourth run.
The Hillcats got two runs back in the bottom half of the frame to trim the deficit to 4-2.
Gabe Russell led off with a single through the left side of the infield. On a 1-1 pitch,
Matthew Delgado belted a ball over the right center field wall for a two-run run round tripper.
UCM responded with two more runs of their own in the third to go back up 6-2. A RBI triple to right and a sacrifice fly to left plated the runs.
They increased their lead to 8-2 in the sixth with a two-run homer to right field.
The Mules sealed the 11-2 win in the ninth inning with one final three-run blast to left field.
Jack Scott (4-0) earned the win.
Nate Wohlgemuth (1-6) took the loss.
The Hillcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 23 as they begin the final four-game road trip of the regular season with a stop in Alva. Okla. for the non-conference finale against Northwest Oklahoma State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
