PITTSBURG, Kan. - Rogers State (24-25) couldn't hang on to an early lead as they saw their season come to an end in a 6-1 game against Pittsburg State (34-16) in the deciding game of the first round, best-of-three series in the MIAA Tournament.
The Hillcats jumped on the board in the first inning with a 1-0 lead. Gabe Russell drove in Matthew Shure with a single thought the right side of the infield.
The Gorillas responded in the home half of the frame as a sacrifice fly to center knotted thing at 1-1.
Pitt State took control of the game in the third inning with a 4-1 lead. A two-run homer to left followed by a solo shot to right put the Gorillas in front.
They sealed the 6-1 win with two final runs in the fifth inning with another three-run no doubter to right.
Christian Spitz (3-1) earned the win. Blake Johnson (3-6) took the loss.
