CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer (0-2-2) battle hard against Oklahoma Chrisitan (2-0-2) in a 1-0 decision on Saturday.
Â
"We didn't really show up in the first half, but our guys responded well as we came out and dominated the second half," said Head Coach
Derek Larkin. "We didn't finish our chances, but you can't put yourself in that situation. OC defended well and did what they needed to go on the road and get a result. Our guys were doing what we asked in the second half, we just needed to be more clinical in the final third."
Â
Despite allowing the one goal,
Declan Viljoen was solid in goal as he made seven saves.
Â
The Eagles cranked up the offensive pressure in the first half as they outshot RSU 10-2 in the period, with seven shots on goal compared to two. OC scored the game's lone goal in the 38th minute to go up 1-0.
Â
The second half was a different story as the RSU offense took control but just couldn't find the back of the net. The Hillcats outshot the Eagles 10-5 in the final 45 minutes. RSU had several chances to equalize as
Alex Laing,
Erik Hjertsson and
Brandon O'Rourke all fired in shots that were saved.
Â
The Hillcats will be back in action as they take to the road on Thursday, Oct. 19 with a trip to Oklahoma City, Okla. for a neutral site match against No. 24 UC Colorado Springs. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on the campus of Oklahoma Christian.
